THERAPEUTIC APPROACH

I mostly use the following approaches in my practice:

  • Drama Therapy: using roles, storytelling, improvisation, creative writing, and embodied approaches to process and heal

  • Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy: evidence-based practice that helps makes sense of our thoughts, feelings, and actions in order to heal

  • Narrative Therapy: using approaches that help us empower ourselves to change our narrative

  • Emotionally-Focused Therapy: identifying primary and secondary emotions with couples to help navigate conflict and reconnect with each other in their relationship

I am currently working on making sure that my therapeutic practice is anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and decolonized. I am engaging in continuous training by learning from amazing therapists/social workers/psychologists in the field to liberate my practice. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT DRAMA THERAPY/CREATIVE ARTS THERAPY

  • Are you going to make me perform in front of a bunch of people? Nope — that isn’t what drama therapy is about! Drama therapy uses dramatic activities and interventions to either connect us or distance us from a thought, feeling or belief so we can process and integrate them more fully into our lives and who we want to be.

  • Do I need to be creative to use creative approaches? Not at all! If anything, creative techniques can help unleash that playfulness and creativity in your life outside counseling sessions.

  • Am I going to be acting out my trauma? That sounds scary and more traumatizing — drama therapy isn’t about re-traumatization, it’s about integration, empowerment, and reclaiming the narrative. You get to decide what healing looks like for you, and I’m here to help you figure out what that can be.
